Your nose isn’t just decorative, it’s one of the most elegant and hard-working organs in your body and the way you breathe through it has a major impact on your health. Here’s why nose breathing matters: - It filters your air
Your nose traps dust, allergens, bacteria, viruses and debris before they ever reach your lungs. Tiny hair-like cilia sweep unwanted particles into the throat so the stomach (not the lungs) can deal with them safely. - It humidifies and warms your breath
Cold, dry air irritates your throat and lungs. Your nose warms and moistens every inhale, making it easier on your respiratory system. That’s why your nose runs in cold weather. - It supports immunity
Your nose and sinuses help regulate nitric oxide, a molecule that boosts circulation and strengthens the immune response. - It enhances your sense of smell (and taste!)
Up to 80% of what we call “taste” is actually smell. When the nose is blocked, everything becomes bland and smell also keeps you safe from smoke, spoiled food and harmful gases. - It regulates breath temperature & improves oxygen uptake
Your lungs prefer air that’s clean, warm and moist. Nose breathing prepares every breath so your body absorbs oxygen more efficiently. - It influences emotion and memory
Your sense of smell is wired directly to the brain’s emotional centre. Scents trigger memories, influence mood and even play a role in attraction. - It even impacts intimacy
Human scent and pheromone perception, still partially mediated by nasal structures, influence bonding, attraction and libido. - It shapes your voice
The resonance that gives your voice richness comes from your nose and sinuses. When you’re congested, your voice sounds flat or nasal because that resonance is blocked.
In short: Nose breathing cleans, filters, humidifies, warms, protects, regulates and enriches your entire system, from your lungs to your immune health to your emotions. A simple shift from mouth breathing to nose breathing can improve your wellbeing, energy, sleep and even movement efficiency. | If you have been thinking about becoming a Pilates instructor, this is a lovely time to begin that journey. My 2026 and 2027 Comprehensive Teacher Training programme starts this September and is designed to guide you step by step through the method with clarity and support.
We go beyond learning exercises, exploring movement, anatomy, teaching skills and how to truly understand the body. It is a space to build confidence, deepen your knowledge and develop a professional and thoughtful approach to teaching. If this is something you feel drawn to, I would love to support you as you take that next step. | Reflecting on Spring 2026 | This spring has been an incredibly busy and rewarding season across the studio and beyond. One of the highlights was completing an intensive, comprehensive Mat Pilates Teacher Training programme (all three modules) with the Irish Defence Forces at Curragh Camp. It was an inspiring experience to work with such energetic, driven individuals whose commitment and enthusiasm were second to none. Seeing their passion for Pilates and the benefits it brings was truly heartening.
Back in the studio, our in-house Comprehensive Teacher Training programme has been progressing beautifully, with students from all across the country successfully completing Chair, Barrel and Mat Module 3. In the coming week, we look forward to finishing the Reformer modules, bringing this semester to a close and marking another major milestone towards completion of this year’s comprehensive 450-hour course, culminating in Reformer III.
We were also delighted to welcome three wonderful new teachers to the team; Brianna, Louise and Prajakta. We are so excited to have them with us and know they will bring great energy, expertise and warmth to our studio community. | Gentle Reminder: Update Your Health Form! | Keeping your health screening form up to date helps us make your Pilates sessions safe, effective and tailored just for you. It only takes a few minutes and ensures we can adapt exercises to your needs, track your progress and prevent injuries.
Thank you for taking a moment to keep your practice safe and enjoyable, we can’t wait to see you in class! | Follow us on Social Media | If you wish to unsubscribe from receiving newsletters from Anne Sexton Pilates please click here https://backoffice.bsport.io/c/3367/unsubscribe/55560991-9de9-4eb9-b527-c0225d594d49 | |
