In our Mat Work class, we aim to master Joseph Pilates’ original 34 exercises, which are designed to engage the whole body through full-range, multi-directional movement. While the mat might seem simple, it’s all about using just your body and the mat to build strength and flexibility. I’ve incorporated fascia-based exercises to help release tension from areas bound by overuse, injury, or stress. Combining mindful movement with Pilates principles, this class enhances both physical and mental well-being, helping you progress toward the ideal body development Joseph Pilates envisioned.
Pilates Mixed Equipment is an invigorating class that brings the full range of studio equipment to life, just like “Joe’s Gymnasium” from Joseph Pilates’ time. From the Trapeze to the Chair, Barrel, Jumpboard, and Vibration Plate, it’s a Pilates playground for adults—boosting strength, agility, endurance, and restoring that youthful energy and glow. You’ll leave the studio feeling lighter, with a skip in your step and already excited for the next class!
Our Backcare and Fundamentals class combines fascia training with Pilates to release stuck tissue and fascial adhesions, restoring normal glide between layers of connective tissue. This improves mobility, reduces tension, and enhances body awareness. Using myofascial massage and mindful movement, we release tight fascia, balance muscle engagement, and promote relaxation. Perfect for boosting flexibility, preventing injury, and supporting both physical and mental well-being, I recommend making this class a regular part of your schedule to tap into your fascia and restore the glide and spring to your body, making movement a pleasure!
Suitable for complete beginners!
Reformer General is a dynamic, fast-paced class designed for those who’ve completed Reformer 1 & 2. The movements flow seamlessly, incorporating omnidirectional and multiplanar full-body patterns that challenge and energise. Be prepared to leave feeling like a brand-new person—this class might just become your next addiction!
Our Pilates Reformer 2 class takes your practice to the next level with more complex, multi-planar movements that challenge coordination and concentration. Energising yet relaxing, you’ll feel your body become more fluid, with improved joint mobility, increased bone density, and greater freedom in your movement. This class promotes full-body continuity with increased ease of movement and communication between the muscles, fascia and neurological systems and helps unlock the benefits of a well-balanced fascial system.
Pilates Reformer 1 introduces you to the benefits of the Reformer, focusing on the moving carriage, resistance, and springs. We will assist you in proper breathing techniques and full body movement, utilising the unique Pilates Reformer to assist you in getting the most out of your body. You’ll awaken muscles and fascia meridians you didn’t know you had, enhancing your mind-body connection, balance, strength, and coordination. This entry-level class leaves you feeling grounded, centered, and confident, with lasting energy and awareness that extends far beyond the Pilates studio and into daily life.
A flowing class staying as true to the original repertoire of Joseph Pilates and his 1st generation teachers as possible. In the classical or original order we can really see the genius of the method. We get to understand the value of Pilates as a foundation, a practice that we perfect, it doesn’t get easy – we get better! We must remember that not everybody will be able for every movement but with consistent practice or in the words of Joseph Pilates, – “perform your contrology exercises just 3 times per week for just 3 months as outlined in Return to Life, you will find your body development approaching the ideal”
A fabulous work out, it will push you, you will sweat and you will get better!
I recommend that you have attended Reformer I and II and are familiar with the exercises to get the most out of this class.
Lynn discovered the myriad benefits of Pilates when she was searching for a change in career path, she is now passionate about practicing and teaching, she completed her full comprehensive training at Anne Sexton Pilates under the expert guidance of Anne! Lynns energy and enthuasism spills over in all of her classes.
I am really thrilled that Lynn continues on her Pilates journey with the studio to our new home in Kilcoole and she is an essential part of Anne’s pilates team, & this marks the start of a new & exciting chapter for us Nothing makes her happier than getting to know the clients in both & helping them on their own individual journeys to better health, fitness & body awareness.
“What I love about pilates is that it really is suitable for all abilities – everyone should practice because everyone benefits; & these benefits include: improved posture & alignment, increased lean muscle tissue, better flexibility, breath control, concentration, all over better health! Lynn gets real satisfaction seeing people mastering exercises that were challenging to begin with. Equally, seemingly straightforward exercises are often really deceptive in their complexity. Nothing should ever feel ‘easy’ once the right focus & concentration is applied.
After almost 20 years working in the fitness industry, Pilates definitely feels like the way forward for me & my body; & I hope to be able to share my enthusiasm with others and empower people through Pilates, the way Pilates has empowered me.
We also love helping our students to share in this excitement and enjoy the same benefits of a career in Pilates that we have experienced!
As well as welcoming our Pilates clients we also have Anne Sexton Pilates Teacher Training School. Our aim is to make world class Pilates trainers who are empowered with the knowledge and skills to change lives positively.
Over the past two decades I have completed many courses and workshops and travelled to the States many times from California to Miami in an effort to gain as much knowledge and experience and to keep up today with all the most up to date science so I and my Studio and school can offer life changing Pilates to our customers.
I myself hold the National Pilates Certified Trainer, NCPT which was set up in the States to establish Pilates as a profession, “ third party certification is one of the main pillars of an established profession, and professionals that choose to obtain the NCPT credential can boast their participation in the development of the industry on behalf of its constituents and its founder”
Our School was last year awarded the PSAP, Pilates Schools Approval Programme. “The Pilates School Approval Program (PSAP) is a program developed by the Pilates Method Alliance to recognize schools that have gone through a rigorous process to show their compliance with Educational Standards. It is also a tool for students to find institutions offering comprehensive teacher training programs.”
So, we don’t just say we are offering world class instruction and education, we have worked hard and have the third-party validation to prove it.
We have done all this so we can stay at the top of our chosen profession and bring you the world class experience you deserve, because you are worth it.
And he was so right, half a century after his death his legacy is alive and well and Pilates as it is now called is practiced worldwide by up to 10 million people, celebs, athletes, dancers and the general public all benefiting for its many benefits.
The Regular Practice of Pilates and use of the Pilates equipment strengthens the whole body, with an emphasis on the core muscles (primarily the abdominals and inner thighs to support the back). A favourite saying of Joseph Pilates about his mat work “People must
“get the mat work in their bodies”
He designed his apparatus and equipment as facilitators and to make it less laboursome on the teacher as evident in this excerpt from an interview he did in 1946.
“I invented all these machines. I thought, why use my strength? So, I made a machine to do it for me. Look, you see it resists your movement in just the right way so those long inner muscles really have to work against it. That is why you can concentrate on movement.”
Joseph Pilates understood that the eccentric and concentric resistance provided by the springs improved proprioceptive feedback, and keeps the body active and working throughout the movement. Therefore, the Reformer becomes the teacher with its constant feedback, it guides the body through difficult movements making them possible, it teaches the desired movement quality needed in Pilates practice: full-bodied effort, length and lift, and opposition. We must stay constantly present otherwise the springs will quickly remind us – sometimes with a clang– that they we need to stay engaged and not let the mind wander off, mindful practice is essential for good practice.
The Pilates Mat can be very difficult for people to master in the beginning so the apparatus helps the body to move correctly, they help optimal positioning and give just the right amount of support and resistance when needed much like the teacher’s hand.

Also preparing the body for delivery and setting it up for an optimal recovery afterwards. Adapting exercises through the trimesters and working on breathing and relaxing in a safe and nurturing environment!

Pilates is a perfect form of exercise for older adults. Our older adult classes focus on balance, stability, muscle function, joint stability and mobility and functional movement. Our oldest member currently is 93 years young! And doing Pilates with us for the past 10 years.
Once the baby has been delivered it’s time for self care and recovery. The body needs to be given time to recover and repair. Pilates is a safe and effective way to encourage blood flow and thus oxygenation of the muscles to help repair and boost the healing process. Timing and exercise load are very important to get right at this stage. We must allow the body time to heal and progress exercises accordingly. This is a very important time for women to recover and repair their bodies and the good news is, it is never too late to start your postpartum journey!
Our Pregnancy Reformer classes are a great way for expectant Mums to continue with their fitness in a safe way as they prepare for the arrival of the little bundle. It’s not a time to push yourself to get fitter, but to prepare the body for the pregnancy as the uterus expands and the baby grows and all the changes that take place in the body as a result. Adapting exercises through the trimesters and working on breathing and relaxing in a safe and nurturing environment!
This class requires at least 12 months of regular Pilates Reformer practice. The Repertoire is more demanding and good body awareness, stability and strength is a necessity. You must have completed at least 10 Reformer Beginner 2 classes before doing this class and your instructor will guide you as to whether this is a suitable level for you. It is a demanding but very enjoyable and rewarding class.
This is a natural progression from Reformer Beginner 1. The exercises are more challenging and require a good knowledge and base level of at least 6 months of regular Reformer practice and good execution of the Reformer Beginner 1 Repertoire. Again, your instructor will help guide you.
This class is suitable for those who have completed at least 6 Reformer Fundamentals classes, and are ready for more of a challenge. Your class instructor will be able to assist you in making a decision.
The Reformer is a machine/apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates to support, assist, activate and resist the user just at the appropriate time. Keeping the exerciser engaged and present in the movement. It is an ingenious piece of equipment and allows the body to get into the most intricate position with just the right amount of assistance and resistance working the muscles through their full range of movement continually loaded.
We have divided the classes into different levels so people get the most out of their practice.
The ideal is to avail of at least 1 private session, I recommend 3, before attending a group class but this is not mandatory. Our Reformer fundamentals class is ideal for those who are returning to exercise after a break, or who are new to the Reformer. We will guide gently through your session acquainting you with the machine/apparatus and its legendry benefits.
This class should be a must for everyone that has a body and wants it functioning at its best!
As with all of our classes we work the body in every plane of movement. But we particularly look at areas that can cause problems for people if they are not addressed. Like the feet, hips, thoracic spine and shoulders.
If there are imbalances in the body caused by things in our lives, such things as occupational, injuries, repetitive movements in work or sport, illness, pregnancy, postpartum etc. these imbalances can throw up many problems in the body if not addressed. Some of the more common things are:
It’s also a great entry level class as we address posture, breathing and muscle activation.
